Coal is an essential fuel in metallurgy, chemistry, energy power industry, oil refining, medicine, fine casting, aeronautics & astronautics industry and so on. Coal plays the dominant role in energy generations and consumptions in China. In terms of minable coal reserves proved, 241 billion tons are in CIS, and 240.6 billion tons in US, and China ranks the third with a proved reserves of 229.9 billion tons in 1996. The coal resource in China are mainly distributed in Shanxi, Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, Sinkiang, Guizhou, Ningxia provinces autonomous region. The total amount is 419 billion tons and accounts for 82.8% of that of the whole country. Up to the end of 1996, the amount of the retaining coal reserves in above area is 822.9 billion ton and accounts for 82.1 % of the whole country. The coal in China is characterized with its high quality and complete variety.
